Corum

watch Corum

With the firm commitment of maintaining the craftsmanship, innovation and beauty of its products, the luxury watch company Corum was founded in 1956 at La Chaux de Fonds in Switzerland.  The designs were made by Ries Gastor, master watchmaker, and René Bannwart, visionary specialist. The first creations were shown in Paris and Germany that same year, but two years later the Chapeua Chinois and the Golden Tube watches set the tone for the special exotic style for adult women.  These models are still highly sought after today, especially by collectors.

The Admiral’s Cup, the first model with a square case, was launched in 1960.  Five years later, this Swiss company created a craze with its oversized watches, such as the Buckingham, and with the presentation of the Corum Montre Monnaje collection that was a huge success.

In 1966, Jean René Bannwart, the founder’s son, joins the family firm and makes a great team with the creation of the Corum Romulus watch with a dial without hour markers.  The watch was soon acquired by many. In the early 80’s the first fully transparent model, the Golden Bridge, was released on the premises of the Museum of Watchmaking at Chaux de Fonds.

At the same time, a piece with a case of twelve faces gave way to the Corum Admiral’s Cup watch, which became the inspiration for this house to represent one of the most aristocratic sailing events in the world, named after this fantastic creation. In 1987 Jean René Bannwart becomes president of Corum.

In the early nineties, the company decided to expand its facilities. The brand held a contest for new architects and achieved great success with the opening of its new headquarters but, in 1998, the Al Fardan Group bought 90% of the stock of this renowned firm, represented by Severin Wunderman, who in 2000 launched the new Corum Boutique collection comprised by the Bubble and Trapèze models, with varied colors on the dial and strap. A limited edition of the Corum Collectors watches was also launched, which translated into a unique and impressive style with its Corum Jolly Roger model.

After more than 50 years, Corum has become a prestigious brand of luxury Swiss watches, thanks to the hard work and career of Severin Wunderman, its current owner, who has managed to be on the preferential list of many customers.  The designs offered are full of youth and dare, without neglecting the traditional craftsmanship that makes Corum a survivor.

Three collections, inspired by water activities, make up the group of masculine and sporty watches that are manufactured by Corum. The first Admiral’s Cup Leyend collection offers watches with the recognized Cosc chronograph movement, together with a frequency of 28,800 changes per hour and a power reserve of 42 hours. Stainless steel, 18-carat pink gold, colored belts in black and brown alligator leather finishes, represent these designs.

The Admiral’s Cup Challenger collection was inspired by the Admiral’s Cup competition and was specially developed for sports, without losing its elegance. It displays emblematic pieces decorated with Cotes de Geneve and finished in gray.  Because of its peculiar dodecagonal form, men can wear them for both work and leisure time, and even at a party. These watches have a very reliable automatic movement, and 2012 brings a new design with a leather strap.

The mono-pusher is a new built-in system in the Seafender Admiral’s Cup watch collection, aimed at young and dynamic customers, with a leather textile strap that is easily recognizable and is inspired by the sailboats.

Currently the Corum watch ambassador, Ben Ainslie, is captain of the British team competing in the America’s Cup since 2007, called Team Origin. Ainslie has been the brand’s ambassador since 2009.
