Graham

Graham is an English name for an English watch. The name of the brand comes from the surname of George Graham, a master watchmaker born in 1673.  He is credited with several inventions that he never patented, such as the first stopwatch, the dead-beat escapement, also known as the Graham Escapement and a precursor of the Swiss anchor movement used in wristwatches, and the master clock for Greenwich Royal Observatory. Graham’s watches have a confidence about them, and they are big watches with big pushers and movements.

This is an independent watch company that manufactures its own watches in their production facilities located in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which is the watchmaking capital of Switzerland.  Their movements are Swiss movements that are exclusively engineered or adapted for the brand.

In 1997 the brand reissued the foudroyante chronograph, with a 1/8th second jumping-seconds hand and a crown-operated coaxial fly-back. This chronograph also included the automatic caliber created by Graham in 1965 with two barrels, two column wheels and 40 jewels.  The watch is water resistant to 160 feet.

There were three versions of the Foudroyante, a blue one, a black one and a silver one, all with silver triangular indexes and with an opening on the dial that displays the stop and start columned wheel. All the variations also have a sapphire crystal with a magnifying glass over the Foudroyante.

The Chronofighter was introduced in the year 2000. It was an automatic mechanical watch certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute and that features a lever on the left side of the case.

The Oversized GMT watch tells the time in seconds and in 30 minute intervals.  It includes a second time zone, a large date window with double discs located at the 12 o’clock position, a G1733 caliber and 27 jewels. It also has 48 hours of power reserve.

George Graham’s inventions have changed the watchmaking industry.  He was an outstanding scientific and his curious inventions are the inspirations behind the watches created by the brand.
