Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Unique Travel Time

Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Unique Travel Time

There have been some complaints from many quarters about the lack of reliable travel time watches from luxury watch makers. As an answer to these complaints, Jaeger-LeCoultre is launching a new watch that belongs to the Duometre family. The limited edition watch from the watch maker is named Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Unique Travel Time and is made in white gold.

The overall design aesthetics of the watch is based on the acquired knowledge of the firm through creating pocket watches. The watch’s case back does have a list of the corresponding cities for each time zone available.

The movement that is powering the watch is handling two time zone sections separately. The first one is for showing home time zone and the other one for another optional time zone. Both of these sections are controlled by the same movement. But the energy sources for them are different. The watch maker is using two separate energy sources to reduce the loss of power caused by the sharing of the same energy source. Each of these power reserves can help the watch’s section that it is powering to run for 50 hours continuously. The watch movement is wound and set by manipulating the crown. When it comes to setting local time, the crown is turned counter clock wise. For travel time, it is turned in clockwise direction. The fact that there are two time zones in the watch is not adversely affecting its running in any way.

The watch dial is created using silvered brass. There is a seconds hand at the middle of the dial. Again, each dial has power reserve meters under them.

Nicely crafted sub dials are visible on the dial. On the dial, the local time is displayed towards the right at 2 O’ clock position. The travel time is displayed towards its left on the sub dial at 10 O’ clock position. Both of these are done in an hour and minute format. A day night indicator is located at 6 O’ clock position in the shape of a globe. There can be difference of opinion on the use of this rotating globe. It is highly likely that some of you are likely to like it and some others are definitely going to hate it. You will find shades of red applied on the digital numbers 7 and 9 as a way to showcase the watch maker’s roots. The completely handmade movement that is powering the watch is a caliber 383 and has almost 500 parts in it.

With a 42 mm by 13.65 mm dimension, the watch is nicely proportioned for most wrists that wear them. As it is a limited edition model, the watch maker is producing only 100 of these watches for the general public. These exclusive white gold creations can be purchased from Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique in Paris from November 2012. The asking price for the model will be is € 37,500. Later in the year 2013, Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre will come out with their regular version of these watches.
