Platinum IWC Spitfire Perpetual Calendar “Laureus” Edition

Platinum IWC Spitfire Perpetual Calendar “Laureus” Edition

IWC has been an ardent supporter of just causes from around the globe all throughout their operations in the watch making industry. This famous maker of stylish wrist watches has supported the activities of the Laureus Foundation throughout the past four years by actively supporting them in their Laureus Sport for Good program. In order to mark this special occasion, they have released a special edition watch that depicts a unique drawing by a child on its case back. They repeated this in the years 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The latest creation from the luxury men’s watches maker to mark the occasion features a stylish blue Portofino chronograph. Again, they were a part of the fundraising night recently hosted by Laureus Switzerland and they gave a unique perpetual calendar Pilot’s watch for the event. This watch generated € 116,000 which formed a significant chunk of the overall amount garnered at the event, € 350,000.

What exactly is so special about this Swiss luxury watch that gained such a high amount of money? The basic model behind it was an IWC Ref 3791 Spitfire Perpetual Calendar with the addition of the “Laureus Blue” shade to add to the special theme. Again, this model is crafted with the stylish precious metal, platinum. The see through case back does show the rotor in action as a stylish Spitfire silhouette. In addition to this, the case back is also engraved with the limited edition number “1/1” as well as the term “Laureus Charity Night Zurich 2012”. IWC has done a great job in creating such a nice watch with a beautiful case.

What does Laureus Charity Night symbolize? The event was hosted to ensure solidarity with the disadvantaged sections of the Swedish society, and especially the children of the country. An amount of money was given to 17 Laureus Ambassadors at the event. Another such event was organized at Dübendorf Air Force Center hangar by the crème de la crème of international sporting arena comprising of the likes of Mark Spitz (the legendary US swimming sensation), Nadia Comaneci (the perfect ten winning gymnast from Romania), Boris Becker (ace making tennis sensation from Germany), Marcel Desailly, Edwin Moses (the sprint champion from US) etc. to gain funds for the event. They were supported in their noble cause by celebrities from the business world, celluloid as well as various other cultural spheres of life and did their part in raising money for the Swiss based Laureus Foundation.

How does Laureus Foundation help its beneficiaries? At this time, human beings are facing challenges that are never faced by their predecessors. This is especially true in the case of disadvantaged children and troubled teenagers in the country as well as abroad. As the society is changing rapidly and merging with people from various parts of the world, a level of discomfiture is to be expected. This problem will be especially pronounced in the case of differently abled and socially and economically disadvantaged teenagers and kids. The Laureus Foundation Switzerland works hard to help these people to get over their troubles and to stand on their own two feet.
